Congratulations

We would like to say a very big ‘well done’ to our Cross Country and Hockey teams who competed in the West Yorkshire School Games at Leeds Beckett University on Saturday 12th March. The Hockey team were fantastic and made it through the group stages to the final round where they finished eighth out of a total 16 teams taking part. Thank you to Daisy, Daniel, Ben, Callum, Jacob and Sam for taking part and their families for coming along and supporting the team.

Cross Country was a great success. Five of our teams qualified for the West Yorkshire finals which was our highest representation ever. The course conditions were very slippery and wet, but all of our athletes gave their absolute best. It is a high level of competition for the children with the top runners from Kirklees, Wakefield, Bradford and Leeds joining the pupils representing Calderdale. Oliver Gill finished a brilliant second in the Year 4 boys race while Sidonie Malcher Akesson and Emma Moore finished sixth and seventh respectively in the Year 6 girls race. Sidonie and Emma have now qualified for the inaugural National Cross Country Finals at Belvoir Castle in Leicester which take place tomorrow. It is remarkable to have two pupils competing at national level. All of the children who represented school did very well and we are proud of each and every one for their contribution to a great team effort.

Gym Competition

We took two teams to the annual Gym Competition on Wednesday. Both teams had practised very hard for the last few months and everyone who was involved agreed that they achieved a very high level of performance and on the night they did really well. The girls team placed second which was fantastic. It is great that some of the pupils who represented school in the mixed competition did so for the first time and will be able to compete in future years. Well done to all of these gymnasts.

Lisa Harrison gave birth to Isla Grace on 10th March.

Congratulations from all at Northowram Primary School.

Safeguarding Children

At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to share this commitment. Our school actively promotes fundamental British values. This commitment includes staff, governors, volunteers and contractors working on the school site.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment and these can be found on our website.

Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.

Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child. Mrs Scardifield and Mr Lomas are also Designated Safeguarding Leads. Canon James Allison is our Safeguarding Governor.

PTFA Update

The planned Fashion Show for 18/03/2016 was unfortunately cancelled due to poor ticket sales. Sadly, this is the second event on our calendar this year which has not gone ahead due to lack of ticket sales. With this in mind we will be putting a survey on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com /Northowram-Primary-School-PTFA) to ask for feedback on this event and also suggestions on events that would appeal to you in future.

The PTFA exists for the benefit of children and families of Northowram, we want to put on events that you want to attend so please help us design events that people want to come to.

On the 12th June 2016 we will be hosting The Burner and our Summer Fayre, this will be a massive event for school and the PTFA. We want to make sure that this event is a huge success and if you have any suggestions on how to make sure this event is a great family day out and help raise money for future big PTFA projects please do get in touch!

Do you work for a company who could help us with sponsorship for the Burner? We need companies to sponsor this fantastic event that will be attended by hundreds of people from across Calderdale. This great event offers a number of opportunities to advertise your business. Please get in touch to find out more.

Have a great weekend.
