News

Thank you for attending our open evening last week where we hosted the ‘welcome meetings’. We feel that it is very important for you to be well informed about your child’s life in school, especially in a period of increased expectation on pupils. We are very fortunate to have amazing support from parents. We know that if we put on an event, people will attend in great numbers.

You will have received a letter inviting nominations for a parent governor. Mike Westaway, one of our current parent governors, is willing to discuss his experience of the role with any potential candidates. Should you wish to speak to Mike, please let the office know or catch him in the playground.

Congratulations

Louie Walsh in 6 Chestnut has just won a national golf competition. He came first in the UK Kids Grand Final. Louie is competing at a national level and has also played abroad. Well done Louie on your fantastic achievements. Here is a picture of him with his trophy.

Safeguarding Children

At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to share this commitment. Our school actively promotes fundamental British values. This commitment includes staff, governors, volunteers and contractors working on the school site.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment and these can be found on our website.

Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.

Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child. Mrs Scardifield and Mr Lomas are also Designated Safeguarding Leads. Canon James Allison is our Safeguarding Governor.

NURSERY ADMISSIONS SEPTEMBER 2017

Football

The girls’ team played against Parkinson Lane last week. They are relatively new to competitive football and lost 5-0, but they showed commitment, passion and determination. I am really sure that as they keep practising, they will develop and improve. Well done to each and every one of them!
