Sports Success

Congratulations to Oliver Gill who came 29th in the National Cross Country finals and contributed toward Year 5’s Team West Yorkshire, finishing 3rd overall. This is an outstanding achievement to reach the National competition and to finish so high up.
We’re pleased to report that Northowram’s Year 5/6 Hockey team finished 7th in the West Yorkshire School Games. They played some very tough opposition, but represented school fantastically well. Thank you to Mrs. Whelan for accompanying the children as Team Manager on the day and to all of the team who performed so well and demonstrated such high levels of sporting conduct.
On Wednesday 29th March, our two wonderful gymnastics teams competed in the annual Calderdale schools gymnastics competition which was held at North Bridge Leisure Centre.
Both teams have been training hard on a Wednesday night and Thursday morning learning and perfecting complex routines that were performed to music. This training paid off as both teams performed their routines to the very best of their ability on the night.
Despite fierce competition from other schools, the mixed team came a very creditable 4th place, the girls team came a comfortable 1st place, beating their nearest rivals by over a mark.
We are extremely proud of both teams for the hard work and dedication they have shown over the last 12 weeks and for the way that they conducted themselves on the night of the competition.
A massive well done to: Reuben Flynn, Imogen Horsfall, Eva King, Hannah Meade-Smith, Amarens Peel-Friggen, Grace Raine, Joshua Verdeyen, Danica Walker, Elliott Welding, Ava Gardiner, Lucy Gledhill, Alyssa Greenwood, Chloe Hemingway, Phoebe Johnstone, Lola

Everyone is late at some point, but too many are habitually late for school.

Reporitng Absence

If your child is absent from school please ensure that you either telephone school as soon as possible each day of the absence or report the absence on the new ParentMail app. It is important that you give the nature of absence e.g. Sore throat, flu, etc. This enables us to monitor the absences properly.

Safeguarding Children

At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the
welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to
share this commitment. Our school actively promotes fundamental British
values. This commitment includes staff, governors, volunteers and
contractors working on the school site.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our
safeguarding commitment and these can be found on our website.
Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other
agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure
that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first,
unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s
welfare.
We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter
radicalisation and extremism.
Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person
in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child.
Mrs Scardifield and Mr Lomas are also Designated Safeguarding Leads.
Canon James Allison is our Safeguarding Governor.

Playtime Snacks

Thank you to everyone who has brought healthy fruit or vegetables for playtime, it is great to have your support with this initiative.

Mobile Phones in School

Is it really necessary for your child to bring their mobile phone to school? We are getting more and more children in KS2 bringing phones into school which have to be handed into the office each morning and locked in a cupboard until the end of the day. Sometimes children do not come and collect their phones and school cannot take responsibility for any loss or damage to them. If you would like your child to bring their mobile phone to school please can you send a letter into school giving the reasons. All phones to have a sticker with your child’s name and class to ensure they are returned to the correct child at the end of the school day.
