Welcome Back

September 21, 2015

After the long break, it has been excellent to get back into the routine of school. The children have come back in magnificently, settling down to the challenges of learning with enthusiasm.

In our assemblies and lessons, we have been thinking about having a positive approach to learning and to growing our brains. The children have been considering the use of the word ‘yet’ at the end of a sentence. ‘I don’t know my tables’ becomes much more positive when you add the word ‘yet’. We want all children to understand and to have the attitude that they can develop their brain to achieve many good things.

We have our Open Evening planned, when we invite you into school to your class welcome meeting and also to look specifically at what we are doing to improve school in the future and we will be seeking views from you. This will take place on Wednesday 30th September at 6.00 pm. Please put this date into your diary and join us. Children are welcome at this event.

SEND

Our new Special Educational Needs and Disability policy (SEND) is now on the school website. If you have any concerns about your child in terms of additional need or disability, you can contact your child’s class teacher or our coordinator for this area, Amy Beanland.

Safety

Could I draw your attention to the fact that if you have any concerns which may impact upon your child’s wellbeing or learning then you can contact our Designated Senior Lead for Safeguarding.

This is Mrs Jennings.

Mrs Jennings can guide and support in many different areas, as well as signposting you in the direction of any support needed.

Drinks

Children may bring a drink container into school for water so that they can drink regularly during the school day.

Anti Bullying

Mr Whittam has been busy teaching the children in Years 4, 5 and 6 about E-Safety, using newly designed units aimed at supporting children to keep safe online. They will be bringing things home with them to inform you about their learning in this key area. Let us know if your child experiences difficulty as we can often support.

Information from First Bus West Yorkshire, Child Day and Week Ticket Price changes

“As part of our annual review of child tickets we will be increasing the prices of our daily and weekly child tickets from 13th September.

Since these tickets were introduced we have maintained attractive, good value prices and they have proved very popular contributing to growth on many of our West Yorkshire bus routes.

Whilst keeping these prices low we are now making changes to reflect increasing costs in the business. As you may know we do not see a short term benefit of oil price cuts and many costs are rising well above infla- tion. Notwithstanding this the increases have been kept to a minimum and in the case of the weekly, the price has not changed for two years and remains lower than when introduced in 2012.

The following changes will be introduced from Sunday 13 September:

  • FirstDay Out Child from £2.20 to £2.30 – this price has been unchanged since April 2014.
  • FirstWeek Child from £7.00 to £7.50 – this price has been unchanged since April 2013 and will remain 50p cheaper than when introduced in September 2012.

First DayOut Child and FirstWeek Child are available to 5-18 year olds.

11-18 year olds must show a Young Person’s or Scholar’s Photocard to buy and use these tickets “

Nepal Appeal

We received a certificate from the Plan UK charity who thanked us for raising the huge total of £599. This money will have supported the operation to keep children safe in the aftermath of the devastation in Nepal.

Book Fair

Don’t forget to visit the Book Fair which is in school until Tuesday evening.

Time: 3.25 pm

PTFA Update

Welcome back, I hope you all had a great summer and enjoyed the school holidays.

At the end of last term, I sadly made the announcement that I would be stepping down as Chair. I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your help and support. I have had an amazing year in the role, but other commitments mean that I cannot give the role the time that it needs. We are in the process of electing a new Chair and as soon as he/ she is in place I will let you know.

We have a number of things going on over the next few weeks, so please check out the events below. I have also issued my Chair’s annual report. If you get chance have a quick read, it summarises what the PFTA did last year.

We are always looking for new ideas of how we can raise funds for the school and improve what we do. If you feel like you can spare any time to support the PTFA or have any ideas then please feel free to get in touch with me directly, my details are below. Alternatively, why not come along to one of our meetings where you will always be welcome!
