Both the A and B Team had games Friday:

The B Team

Had their final game of the league, needing a win to secure the championship. They lined up against a tough Cliffe Hill side who began the game strongly. Northowram soon took control stringing together several passes and working their way forward towards the Cliffe Hill end. Northowram tested the keeper again and again with a combination of moves: both down the centre and from the wide positions. The second half began with both sides really going for the win. Some magnificent saves from both keepers kept the game at 0-0. Finally, with 3 minutes to go, Northowram strung together a number of passes, bringing the ball in from out-wide where Matthew Briggs latched onto the ball with a looping volley over the keepers head. Northowram B then held on for the final 3 minutes to secure the win and the B League title.

The A Team

Kicked off their campaign with a tough local derby against Shelf. Fielding a strong side Northowram A had a great start to the match going 1-0 up in the first 5 minutes through a Jake Challenger goal. It remained 1-0 until half time; with both teams having chances and defending well. A very strong start to the second half saw Jake score two more goals to complete his hat-trick. Northowram A continued strongly, stringing numerous passes together and moving up the pitch with ease. Shelf managed to pull one goal back with a great move down the centre, moving the ball out wide and crossing back in to score. Northowram, having conceded, rallied together; resulting in a final goal for Jake Challenger and a brace for Jack Craig. Overall a confident 6-1 win.

In Northowram A’s second game, against Salterlee, the Team made another great start. Both teams were evenly matched and had chances at either end. After a tough ten minutes Freddie Haigh opened the scoring with a lovely run through the middle latching onto Ethan Wroot’s perfectly timed low cross. After the half time break Northowram continued their high class performance, passing accurately and working their way towards the Salterlee end. With a second half brace from Ethan Wroot they ended the game 3-0 winners.

Northowram A have two more games against St Michael’s and Bailiffe Bridge next week… a win in both will see them emulating the B teams tremendous efforts and winning the league.
