Open Evening

Please come and join us at next week’s Open Evening. We are running the usual welcome meetings for all year groups in the individual classrooms and it is a really useful opportunity to hear all about the coming year and expectations on pupils. We are very eager to see every pupil being represented as we look to work closely with all families. There will be two identical opportunities to hear from the staff, 3.30 pm and 6.00 pm. You are welcome to pop into school at any point during the time period listed above as school will be open.

Chair of Governors

Michael Booth has stepped down from his role as Chair of the Governing Body at Northowram and from his role as a Parent Governor. Michael has served for almost two terms as a Parent Governor and his work has contributed significantly to the success of the school. During this time he has supported and challenged the school to improve and to develop. May I take this opportunity to thank him and wish him well in the future.

Be prepared for the colder weather

Please can you ensure that your child brings a coat to school for playtime and lunch time as the weather has now started to turn colder.

Gardening Club

The gardening club returned on Monday after the summer break to begin harvesting the produce planted in the previous 6 months.

Olivia, Charlie & Jacob dug lots of potatoes, beetroot, onions, turnips and picked tomatoes, courgettes/marrows, (some nearly as big as the children), which will be used in our school kitchen. The children also took a selection of vegetables home to enjoy.

Well done !

Safeguarding Children

At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to share this commitment. Our school actively promotes fundamental British values. This commitment includes staff, governors, volunteers and contractors working on the school site.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment and these can be found on our website.

Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.

Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child.

Mrs Scardifield and Mr Lomas are also Designated Safeguarding Leads.

Canon James Allison is our Safeguarding Governor.

Nursery Admissions September 2017

Will your child turn 3 between 1st September 2013 and 31st August 2014? Have you registered your child’s details for our Nursery? Children for admission to Nursery in September 2017 need to be registered by 31st January 2017. We now offer more flexible sessions which include some full days. If you would like some further information please ring Mrs Jennings or email

Today we are saying a temporary goodbye to Beth Davies in Year 4. We wish her all the best with the birth of her baby.

School Meals Patterns

Please can parents note the options for school meals patterns are:

  • All week
  • Monday only
  • Friday only
  • Monday and Friday

These are the only options available. If your child no longer would like to be on school dinners please note we require one week’s notice of changing to a packed lunch.
