Thanks PTFA

You will have seen that we have laid flooring to the trim trails around school. The reason for this is to increase the amount of time (especially in Winter) that the children can use the equipment. Previously the wet weather meant that it was out of action for long periods due to the mud. The flooring is really expensive and the PTFA have funded this. We really appreciate this as the pupils love using it at playtimes. Thanks to all parents and carers for continued support of all of the events that contribute to the fundraising.

Elliot Burke’s entry in the design a cycling shirt for Alopecia UK was selected by Joanna Rowsell Shand MBE as the Bronze Prize winner. It is amazing to think that a multi Olympic champion has picked out Elliot’s work personally. He has been given a shopping voucher to spend as he wishes.

Welcome Back and Goodbye

Miss Beanland will be returning to school from her maternity leave after the holidays and taking up her role as SENCO. We would like to thank Mrs Watson for covering the role during Miss Beanland’s maternity leave. Miss Beanland takes over from Miss Taylor who has been in Year 2. We would like to thank Miss Taylor for her hard work this year and to wish her well in her new post.

PTFA Update

Over the next couple of weeks we will be very busy getting ready for the burner and summer fair. We are hoping it will be even better than last year.
We would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone that has donated chocolate for the chocolate tombola.
We still need help with a few more things. Please see our separate posters for full details but the following things are needed.

Do you have any unloved teddies that would love a new home? Please donate them to school for the very popular Teddy Tombola!

Use any empty jar and fill it with anything! Lots of people have asked what they can put into the jar, our answer… any-thing that fits!
The above items can be brought into school from Monday 5th June.

Any donations of baking will be gratefully received. We give all our 10k runners a bun then the rest will be sold on our home baking stall.
We are trying to keep our Facebook page updated with everything that’s happening too so if you use Facebook please search for Northowram Primary School PTFA

School Attendance and Punctuality

We are working on decreasing lateness and unauthorised absence and we are going to be closely monitoring all absence, punctuality and term time holidays. Please see below the current statistics that relate to this half term. As part of this process we will be contacting parents via telephone and letters to discuss persistent punctuality issues. Everyone is late at some point, but too many are habitually late for school.
1655 Number of minutes lost due to late arrival at school (15th – 26th May)
This is the equivalent of 5.02 lost school days in the last 2 weeks
62 Children arrived late during this period

Term time holidays

27 Pupils have taken term time holidays since 15th May – 159 school sessions have been lost due to holidays

Unauthorised absences

14 Pupils have taken unauthorised absence sessions totalling 42 (between 15th—26th May) this is where no reason has been given for a child not being at school.

Whole school attendance from 15th—26th May 96.10%

Reporting Absence

If your child is absent from school please ensure that you either telephone school as soon as possible each day of the absence or report the absence on the new ParentMail app. It is important that you give the nature of absence e.g. Sore throat, flu, etc. This enables us to monitor the absences properly.

Please can parents where possible ensure that any routine appointments for the dentist, doctor and optician are made for out of school hours. If appointments are required during school time please can you inform the school office rather than the class teacher, as soon as possible.

Safeguarding Children

At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to share this commitment. Our school actively promotes fundamental British values. This commitment includes staff, governors, volunteers and contractors working on the school site.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment and these can be found on our website.

Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.

Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child. Mrs Scardifield and Mr Lomas are also Designated Safeguarding Leads. Canon James Allison is our Safeguarding Governor.

Playtime Snacks

Thank you to everyone who has brought healthy fruit or vegetables for playtime, it is great to have your support with this initiative.

Mobile Phones in School

Is it really necessary for your child to bring their mobile phone to school? We are getting more and more children in KS2 bringing phones into school which have to be handed into the office each morning and locked in a cupboard until the end of the day. Sometimes children do not come and collect their phones and school cannot take responsibility for any loss or damage to them. If you would like your child to bring their mobile phone to school please can you send a letter into school giving the reasons. All phones to have a sticker with your child’s name and class to ensure they are returned to the correct child at the end of the school day.

Moving House, Changing Telephone Numbers or Email Address

If you are moving house, changing your telephone numbers or your email address please can you inform school as soon as possible to ensure we have the most up to date information.

Parents registered on ParentMail must also update their information on the system directly.

If you have any queries or problems please do not hesitate to contact school.

99% of parents have now registered for the upgraded ParentMail which is fantastic. If you have not registered please do so as soon as possible, this will ensure that you receive any texts or emails that are sent from school and you will not miss out on important information.
