Recycling

We introduced our new recycling champions to everyone in assembly this week.

Evie, Molly and James (Year 5) are going to start a new initiative for us, collecting plastic writing instruments that are broken or finished. These items will be sent off to be recycled
into a range of items.

Jess and Amelie (Year 6) are going to encourage us all to reuse or recycle plastic bottles by putting some bins in key areas of school. Charlie and Izzy (Year 4) are going to help us to do a better job of recycling paper and cardboard. Together we hope to make a difference to our environment and the team will be awarding certificates half termly to the class that seems to be doing the best job.

Winter Illnesses

As usual we are seeing the usual Winter bugs in school. If your child has suffered an incidence of sickness and/or diarrhoea please keep them off school for 48 hours after the last occurrence. We appreciate the urgency of getting the children back in, but if they return and are still infectious, it spreads further and can become a bigger problem for us. Thanks for your help with this.

World Book Day

Please mark the date in your diary. Thursday 1st of March is World Book Day! Watch this space for details of lots of activities. This year we will be inviting the children to dress up as a book character. As ever, this is an option and as an alternative, they may come in non -uniform.

Time Table Rockstars

Please make your child go on Time Table Rockstars as part of their homework. The impact for the children who go on regularly is huge. We have children of all abilities who have dramatically improved their speed. The result is that maths is easier because of solid tables knowledge. Conversely pupils who don’t go on the site continue to struggle.

Children seem to spend a lot of time on devices, so 10 minutes regularly on TT Rockstars is a really quick win for their learning.

Inspiring success beyond expectation

Nursery Places

Do you want your child to be part of an outstanding school? Northowram Primary School has some Nursery places available right now! We can offer 15 hours of Early Years Education over two and a half days (Weds pm, all day Thurs & Fri) or 5 afternoons (12.30pm-3.30pm). Please contact Jane Jennings 01422 202704 for more details: jane.jennings@northowram.calderdale.sch.uk.

Winter Weather

At this time of year it is good to highlight a few things about adverse weather.

1. We will do everything that is reasonably possible to open school, even if it is a reduced service
2. You don’t need to ring up to check we are open – we would text if we were shut and we would put it onto the council website so you can check
3. If it snows during the day, you are welcome to collect early, but you don’t need to as we will look after the children until collection
4. In snowy weather we try to go outside to play so please send your child with sensible clothing
5. If you live out of the village, only travel if you feel that it is safe to do so.
