Remembrance Day

A group of children from 2 Beech and 5 Willow attended the war memorial in the village on Wednesday 11 November to lay wreaths that they had made. This was extremely well supported by the local community and there was even a horse and dog in attendance. Horses played a massive part in the war effort supporting our troops, so it was lovely to see one at the service.

In school we observed a minute of silence to Remember.

Children in need

On Friday 13th November we held a non uniform day in school. We raised £309.26 in donations. Thank you to everyone who supported this very worthwhile cause.

Christmas Beanies for Sale

We will once again be selling Christmas Beanies in school on behalf of Overgate Hospice. They will cost £1 each. They will go on sale on the 30th November between 8am and 10am and afterschool from the school reception.

Guess how much we raised?

We raised £136.52 for G.O.S.H (Great Ormond Street Hospital). Thank you to everyone who donated just as little as 25p because every penny is more than they had yesterday.

Year 5 Sports Hall Championships

4 children attended the Sports Hall Championship at Park Lane High on Thursday 19th November. This was a great event.

Daisy Whelan was awarded a silver medal – well done.

The children did really well and were fantastic representatives of our school.

Safeguarding Children

At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to share this commitment. This includes staff, governors, volunteers and contractors working on the school site.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment and these can be found on our website.

Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, un-less we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s wel-fare.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisa-tion and extremism.

Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child. Mrs Scardifield and Mr Lomas are also Designated Safeguarding Leads. Can-on James Allison is our Safeguarding Governor.

PTFA Update

I am pleased to take over as the PTFA chair and wish to extend my sincere thanks to Zoe who has proved to be an excellent chair. She will continue to be a key member of the PTFA team. I am proud of the work we do as a PTFA and grateful to everyone who attends the meetings and supports our events.

We always welcome new members to the PTFA and I completely understand that attending meetings may not always be the best way for people to contribute. If you would like to help the PTFA in other ways such as volunteering at our upcoming events please do get in touch.

The next event on the calendar is the ever popular Secret Shop, more information on this will follow in the coming weeks.

Hope you have a great weekend.
