Open Classrooms

The Open Classroom event was once again a huge success. It was great to see such a healthy turnout of parents/carers in school this week. We hope that you found this a useful and informative ‘drop-in’ session and that any queries or questions you may have had have now been answered. Please remember that you are welcome to speak with or email Class Teachers at any point to discuss the work and progress of your child. You certainly don’t have to wait!

Travelling Book Fair

Thank you for taking the time to come into school with your child to browse and purchase books from the Travelling Book Fair. With every purchase that you made you have helped raised over £700 for the school to purchase books for the library. Thank you.

School Meals – Important Information

The school office staff must be advised of any changes to meal patterns, even if your child is in KS1 and entitled to the Infant Free Meals. This is to ensure that the correct number of meals are cooked each day, and that invoices are calculated correctly. At least 1 weeks notice is required of any change. Thank you!

Harvest

Reminder that this year we are supporting Calderdale Smartmove, an independent organisation which supports homeless and vulnerable people across Calderdale. The children will be hearing more about the charity and the work that they do, and we will send more information about donations etc. via Parentmail.

PFTA Disco

The PTFA Disco will take place in school on Friday 18 October 2019.

  • Reception—During school time
  • Years 1/2/3—4pm to 5.00pm
  • Years 4/5/6—5.15pm—6.15pm

Parents will receive more information regarding the disco via Parentmail.

Times Tables Rockstars – Battle of the Bands!

We’ve got a boys vs girls Battle of the Bands running next week on Times Tables Rockstars. More information regarding this will be sent via Parentmail.

No dogs allowed

Dogs are not permitted on the school grounds. Please support us with this by leaving your dog at home or at the gates.

Please Park Considerately!

Parking is at a premium at drop-off or pick-up time.

Please consider the safety of our children and the local residents when you park at these times. We continue to work with the local council and police to ensure that we keep our children as safe as possible at these busy times. Please think carefully about the safety of your parking – it really could cost a child’s life. Many thanks to all our careful and considerate families including many who make the sensible decision to walk to and from school!

Moving house, changing phone numbers or email address

If you are moving house, changing your telephone numbers or your email address please can you inform school as soon as possible to ensure we have the most up to date information. Staff will make the changes on the system. Parents registered on ParentMail will then receive a message asking them to confirm the changes that have been made—Parents should click ‘YES’ to this. If you have any queries or problems please do not hesitate to contact school.

School Photos

Individual and sibling photographs will be taken in school on Wednesday 2nd October 2019. All photographs of siblings in school will be taken during school time. However if parents would like to have photographs taken of younger siblings then this is available from 8.15am in the school hall.

For pupils who are in Nursery that do not normally attend on a Wednesday they are invited to attend either in the morning or afternoon to have their photo taken with the rest of the class. More information about this will be given nearer the time.

Please note: We must have consent forms for all pupils to have their photograph taken. If you are unsure if we have your form, please contact the school office.

Safeguarding Children

At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to share this commitment. Our school actively promotes fundamental British values. This commitment includes staff, governors, volunteers and contractors working on the school site.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment. Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism. Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child. Mrs Scardifield and Miss Horsfall are also Designated Safeguarding Leads.

Gary Birch is our Safeguarding Governor.
