Christmas Events

What a busy time we have had in the run up to Christmas. Last week saw the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 performances taking place. These were a huge success. They were as popular as ever and it was great to see so many families spending time in school and enjoying the festivities. The children have enjoyed their Christmas parties this week and in the infant classes we have welcomed Father Christmas. In assembly we have been thinking all about the Nativity Story. Year 1 went to the Square Chapel to see a production of ‘The Snow Queen’ and the Year 2 children visited the panto. Last Friday saw the annual event of Secret Shop, Christmas Jumper day and Christmas Lunch. This is a fabulous day for the children at our school and they love buying gifts for their families.

With all of these events, they would not happen if it wasn’t for the fabulous support from staff, parents and families. Thank you for your support.

Thank you to all those who bought poppies we collected £81.16.

Holly Lynach MP

It has been lovely to welcome Holly Lynch, our local Member of Parliament into school today. Holly is a former pupil of Northowram Primary School. She came in to announce the winner of her Christmas card competition. The winner was Sam Robinson, whose design has been made into a card and sent as Holly’s official Christmas card. What an honour for Sam and our school.

We will also use our texting service. Please do not call school.

Safeguarding Children

At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to share this commitment. Our school actively promotes fundamental British values. This commitment includes staff, governors, volunteers and contractors working on the school site.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment and these can be found on our website.

Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.

Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child. Mrs Scardifield and Mr Lomas are also Designated Safeguarding Leads. Canon James Allison is our Safeguarding Governor.

Well Done

Well done to Jessica Weston, Charlotte Walker ,Isabel Johnstone, Martha Greenwood and Amelia Taylor who have raised the amazing amount of £144.53

This money was raised for the British Heart Foundation and this is a cause that is very important to some of the children in our school who have problems with their hearts. Well done to this team of pupils who organised this completely independently.

Following recent interviews Miss Helen Parker has been appointed as Teaching Support Assistant. Helen will be working in Year 5 and will start on Monday 4th January.

If your child is absent from school please ensure that you either telephone school as soon as possible each day of the absence or report the absence on the new ParentMail app.

PTFA Update

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the PTFA and firstly, I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped at our Christmas concerts, selling raffle tickets and serving beverages. Special thanks must go to Liz Lund for arranging the beautiful hampers and co-ordinating the volunteers. The Christmas concerts were as always fantastic.

Secondly, I’d like to thank the team who gave up substantial amounts of their own time to set up, run and clear up from the Secret Shop. This event involves a huge amount of work which lasts all year long so special thanks must go to Crystal Healy for co-ordinating and managing this brilliant event.

I personally was privileged to be part of the Secret Shop this year and would like to comment on what a lovely day this was. The children all enjoyed choosing presents for their families and friends and were polite and charming throughout. Thank you for allowing your children to take part in this event.

Thanks to all those people who assisted with wrapping gifts, we could not put on this event without your support.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you all enjoy the festive period.
