Non Tolerance Posters

You will notice that we have put up some posters which communicate our stance that we won’t tolerate abusive behaviour in our school. We have noticed that there have been incidents of adults being aggressive and rude in their tone when dealing with staff. The overwhelming majority of adults who deal with our school are reasonable and decent. The ones who cannot be decent and behave inappropriately will be asked to leave. It will be surprising to the vast majority of parents and carers that our staff have to deal with unpleasantness from a small number. Thank you for your support with this.

The next parents evenings will be held on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th February. All bookings for this will be done on ParentMail so if you have not yet registered please do so as soon as possible to enable you to book your appointments.

If you need help registering please contact school.

Please can you ensure that your child brings a coat, hat and gloves to school for playtime and lunch time as the weather has now turned cold.

Thank you to everyone who so generously donated. We raised a fantastic £422.70.

Safeguarding Children

At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to share this commitment. Our school actively promotes fundamental British values. This commitment includes staff, governors, volunteers and contractors working on the school site.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment and these can be found on our website.

Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.

Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child.

Mrs Scardifield and Mr Lomas are also Designated Safeguarding Leads. Canon James Allison is our Safeguarding Governor.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY— These dates are for the next school week. Please see our school website for all diary dates.

  • 20th January 2016 – Quiksticks Hockey Tournament Year 5 & 6

We currently have a vacancy for a School Kitchen Assistant for 5 hours per week (working on a Monday and Friday). The application form can be downloaded from either Calderdale Council jobs website or the school website. The closing date is 27th January.

Well done

All of the pupils who achieved 100% attendance in the Autumn term got their certificate this week. We will now reset the clock and will be rewarding all 100% Spring pupils at Easter.

Please try to avoid your child being off when they are just a bit under the weather.

Mrs Philippa Walker started in school on Monday 11 January. Philippa will work in Year 3 as a Teaching Support Assistant. We hope that Philippa will enjoy her time here at school.

If your child is absent from school please ensure that you either telephone school as soon as possible each day of the absence or report the absence on the new ParentMail app. It is important that you give the nature of absence e.g. Sore throat, flu, etc. This enables us to monitor the absences properly.

PTFA Update

Happy New Year to All.

As we are already well into the new year and looking forward to our upcoming events now is the time when we need new members/helpers for the PTFA. Each event involves a significant number of people to make it a success and we need your help!

Can you volunteer a couple of hours to help with the Disco, help setting up or clearing away after events? Can you volunteer your skills as a raffle ticket seller or waiter/ress at the Fashion Show or help us with marshalling at the Burner? We really need your help to make each and every event a success. Any time you can spare would be very greatly received.

The next event on our calendar is the Disco, a letter will be with you shortly outlining the arrangements.
