Northowram News

May 01, 2015

Is there ever a quiet time at our school? The children have been so busy and a number of special things have being going on in school. Last week, Year 6 went to Headingley in order to participate in ‘Cricket in the Classroom’. They experienced all sorts of cricket related learning and had a super day. The children celebrated St George’s day with a meal and assembly all about the story of George and the Dragon. The Year 3 pupils went off for their first swimming session on Friday and had a really good time. They were sorted into groups and behaved very well throughout.

This week has been equally busy. On Tuesday, the Year 2 pupils saw ‘The Owl Display Team’. This was part of their work on Nocturnal Animals. We saw further volunteers from Lloyds Banking Group attend our school to help carry out many tasks, including the construction of a compost area, fencing round the orchard, sealing the Eco greenhouse, building planting beds and preparing baskets and tubs. The children fully interacted with our volunteers, preparing drinks, sieving soil and planting baskets and tubs, amongst other tasks. If you are looking for a hanging basket or garden tub produced in school, grab yourself a bargain at the up-coming Farmer’s Market.

Many thanks to our Lloyds volunteers, Margaret Higson, John Marshall and Ian Wood for co-ordinating another successful ‘Day to Make a Difference’ in our school.

Dance Festival

The Year 5/6 Creative Dance group took part in the Hipperholme and Lightcliffe dance festival last week, raising money for the MeningitIs Trust. Our children performed brilliantly with confidence and enthusiasm, making their parents and teachers very proud.

Well done to you all.

New School Website

The new school website should be online during this weekend. It has been a long time coming, but I am sure that you will approve of the quality and content. It is fresh in design and bespoke to our needs. We will be able to update it quickly and ensure that it is constantly refreshed with all the information that you need about the good things happening in our school.

Look out for it coming online.

Year 1 Trip

Year 1 went to the Square Chapel this week where they saw a performance called ‘Pop Up Flashback’. It was the story of a man told using pop up books and was very interactive for the children. It will be a good stimulus for their work now using this type of book.

The children had a great time and were a credit to our school.

Wanted!

The school gardening club are looking for a water butt or a large barrel to store water in. Please contact the school if you are able to help us. Thank you.

A Big Thank You!

A big thank you to our fantastic volunteers Sarah Priestley and John Marshall for all their hard work in producing our school scarecrows for the Scarecrow festival this weekend.
Themed the ‘Northowram Sports Family’, I am sure you will agree the four scarecrows look superb outside school.
