Red Nose Day

What a great day we had in school and we don’t want to see another bun for a long time! We have been working hard to teach the children all about the causes, both at home and abroad, that benefit from the funds raised. Thank you for patiently supporting two dress up days in short succession. We raised a staggering £515.85, not least of which £60.56 was raised by Ella & Lillia Mazurke for a one hour ‘sponsored silence’ at their Dad’s work premises. A big thank you to everyone.

Space

Destination Outer Space was on the agenda for Year 1 this week. They made their own jet packs and whizzed and zoomed all the way to space. Luckily they didn’t meet any nasty aliens like the ones they have been designing and making in class!

Praise Assembly

13th March: Sara Acimovic, Willow Taylor, Musa Mahmood, Oliver Swingler-Hale, Raymond Gaines, Charlie Gledhill, George Nicholas, Evie Cockburn, Elise Lockwod, Rhianna Joseph, Rosie Moore, Daniel Lockwood, Jack Taylor, Oliver Smith, Joe Black, Edward Bristow, Eleanor Heap, Isobel Ward, Charlotte Wood, Daniel Bower, Henry Walsh and Finley Canning. There is no Praise Assembly today due to PTFA disco.

Gardening Appeal

We would be really grateful if anyone could find us 13 strong same-size pallets to be used in the Gardening club. Please contact Mr. Wood if you can help. Thank you.

Fairy Tale Books

We are appealing for Fairy Tale books for Reception. In particular The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Ugly Duckling, The Enormous Turnip and Jack and the Beanstalk. Any others would also be gratefully received. Thank you in advance.

Scarlet Fever

We have had a very small number of cases of Scarlet Fever in school. According to the press, there is an outbreak in Yorkshire. You may find the following link useful – NHS Scarlet Fever.

Gymnastics Competition

On Wednesday 11th March children from Northowram took part in the Annual Gymnastics Competition at North Bridge Leisure Centre. The competition was intense with schools competing from around Calderdale. Both our girls’ and boys’ teams made their teachers and parents proud by performing outstandingly with the boys gaining a trophy for 2nd place. A big well done to Keegan Brear, Alyssa Greenwood, Isabel Johnstone, Phoebe Johnstone, Lily McKenzie, Amelia Taylor, Charlotte Walker, Jessica Weston, Archie Halmshaw, Jack Kershaw, Ryan Moore, Alfie Pow, Junaid Qureshi and William Temelkovski.

Dates for your Diary

These dates are for the next school week

  • All week (various groups) – Y6 Bikeability
  • Thursday 26th March – Easter lunch, Promotional Meal
  • Friday 27th March – School closes for Easter Holiday
  • Monday 13th April – School re-opens

PTFA Update

Well it looks like Spring is here and according to Robin Williams “let’s party!”, and what better way to do this than at the school disco tonight.

School Disco – Friday 20th March

Just a quick reminder of the timings below:

  • Nursery and Reception 14.15 – 15:25
  • Years 1 / 2 / 3 – 16:00 – 17:15
  • Years 4 / 5 / 6 – 17:30 – 18:45

Years 1 – 6 Disco £1 entry fee. There will be glow products, chips, drinks, sweets and a lucky dip for the children to buy. For those of you who have opted for the ‘Disco Deal’, which includes their entry fee, your children will get their goodies when they arrive at the disco.

At the end of each disco the children will exit from the hall into the nursery playground. We are aware that in the past this has become quite difficult, so in order to improve this we will be letting the children go by their year group and class, with the youngest class first. To ensure this runs smoothly, please can you stand back until your child’s class is called. We appreciate your co-operation with this.

Other dates for your diary are:

  • Scarecrow Festival- Saturday 2nd, Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th May. On the Saturday we will be serving refreshments in school and will be running a “New to You” sale. This is an opportunity for parents to come and sell any unwanted toys, clothes etc
