Subject Specialism - A Northowram Press Report

October 14, 2015

Since the beginning of term, years 4, 5 and 6 have been swapping classrooms in the afternoon so pupils have the best teachers for each subject. Children have been taught many things in their subject specialist classes. So far this year, Year 5 have been doing some interesting art work and getting very messy with abstract paintings. In science they have been learning about the different parts of a flower. Also in French they are learning the French alphabet and in computing, learning how to be safe online. Overall Year 5 are loving this experience.

Year 6 have had many exciting lessons learning lots of new skills in Music and French while being very creative in Art. As Mia from Year 6 said, ‘I have improved at some subjects like French and History and have overall received a better education’

Teachers are transporting the Year 4’s and 5’s around the school however the year 6’s are  being trusted to walk around so they are becoming familiar with what they will be doing next year. On the contrary, all the children have agreed that they have improved tremendously at these specialist subjects and being safe and quiet walking around the school.

Teacher Miss Craven told the press that it was going really well, she likes teaching different classes again that she has already taught and children are overall more focused on their learning. Miss Armitage also said that it’s going really well because teachers get to teach their best subjects and it feels like there is more concentration from the children in the afternoon.

The first block of lessons are nearly finished and the children and teachers are looking forward to new lessons and subjects in the second half of the Autumn Term.
