Supporting Schools Suffering from Flooding

January 12, 2016

Dress Down Day

Dress down day was a great success and many people enjoyed it. We dressed down because of how treacherous the floods were over Christmas. Everyone brought in a donation to help out local schools who lost a lot. We managed to raise a large amount for those in need.

Interview with Mrs Watson

At Burnley Road Academy there was a 5ft flood and everything inside the school was ruined including all their books and toys. Mrs Watson’s children attended this school and now they have to catch a bus to Saville Park School. Because of this Mrs Watson set up a website on the internet to raise money for the repairs so they can rebuild all the inside. So far the website has raised £7000. Also to raise money for the school, on Saturday the 16th of January 2016, McDonalds in Salter Hebbel is having a fund raiser all day with activities such as face painting, cake sale and bike-athon. All the activities will start at 12:00 and finish at 2:00. Everyone is welcome and we hope the school is saved.

Mrs Hudson’s experience with the floods

Mrs Hudson our year 4 teacher had a tragic experience over Christmas. Journalism club interviewed Mrs Hudson-

Mrs Hudson: On Boxing Day I woke up at about 8:00 in the morning and found that my downstairs rooms were all flooded. Luckily I woke up in time to save my belongings (television, laptop, school books, sofa and precious belongings). Sadly my next door neighbours weren’t so lucky. Some of the elderly people from across the road had to be rescued by helicopters; cars were under water, it was really scary.

By the next day all of the water had gone. The next 3 hours was spent tearing out the carpet and plaster. No electricity made it very hard to clean. Everyone’s belongings were out on the streets of Mytholmroyd. Everything in the local church had to be thrown away (bibles and hymn books) it was a tragic few days.

All I can say is thank you for all the volunteers they made a big difference (It will take 6 months to get back to normal)
